CCNY Art + Science Leonardo da Vinci Challenge
The first CCNY ART + SCIENCE competition is now open and accepting entries. The competition is a collaboration between undergraduate students. Form a team with your fellow students and compete against another team for a chance to win the grand prize of $1,000.
Submission deadline is May 12, 2017.
Challenge Details:
The City College of New York undergraduate students interested in art and science are invited to participate in CCNY's own the Leonardo da Vinci Challenge. Teams of two or more students may submit artwork expressing a scientific principle, concept, idea, process, and/or structure. Contest submissions may be visual, literary, musical, video or performance based. A juried panel, using criteria based on both scientific and artistic considerations, will choose one winning team and award a cash prize of $1,000.
Submissions are to adhere to the following criteria:
- Only one entry per team. Teams can consists of two or more people.
- All work must be original, accurate, unpublished and the sole property and work of the team, and not previously submitted in any other contest.
- A completed da Vinci Challenge Contest Entry Form must accompany all entries.
- A written explanation must accompany each entry form detailing both the scientific principle and the artistic vision of the work as it pertains to the concept, idea, process or structure that is represented.
- Awards are made at the sole discretion of the judging panel and all decisions are final.
- The judges reserve the right to not include entries at their discretion.
In completing your submission you should consider the following:
- Scientific Basis (How well is the science represented by the artwork?)
- Creativity (for example uniqueness, imagination, inspiration, etc.)
- Quality of Explanation (How well does it enhance the audience’s understanding of the science being represented?)
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Please submit entries via email. Send Entry Form and written explanation of artwork, along with the artwork to khill1@ccny.cuny.edu.
All files, no matter what format, must be labeled according to this protocol: “lastname, image number, image or entry name” as in: “smith1neuronbluewave.jpg”

*The Judges may elect not to award the prize in the event of less than three submissions.
